Community Corner - Food Scrap Recycling for West Vancouver

Curbside food scraps recycling will soon become available to single-family residences in West Vancouver. As part of the Green Can Program, North Shore residents living in single-family homes may include food scraps and food-soiled paper at the curbside with their yard trimmings for recycling.

The program will begin the first week of May 2012. To make it easier for residents to participate the District of West Vancouver will provide each household with a 46L wheeled Green Can for their food scraps. Residents can recycle food scraps in 3 easy steps:
  1. Collect food scraps in a kitchen container of your choice.
  2. Empty your kitchen container into your Green Can.
  3. Place your Green Can curbside on your collection day.
What goes in: All food scraps, food-soiled paper and yard trimmings. What stays out: Plastic, including biodegradable or compostable plastic, and pet waste. Visit greencan.northshorerecycling.ca for more information.
